IN THE GARDEN
Cash proved an able mediator, suggest-
ing a design that marries a formal garden
area with more relaxed plantings. “I never
would have thought of that,” says Todd,
“but it really worked.” An existing concrete
patio became an intimate living space with
cushy furnishings, a wood arbor for
privacy, and a fire pit for a cozy atmosphere
on cool nights.
After a long work day, Todd unwinds
in the garden. “I’ll come home and my
head is spinning,” he says. “I’ll walk along
the paths and then sit down by the fire pit.
It’s a sanctuary.”
FOUND SPACE
Todd and Gwen stained their plain
concrete slab a more attractive rustic brown,
left.
The Graves’s dog, Raising Cane, enjoys a shady spot
on the new surface.
